One of the most trite comments made by both photographers and non photographers alike is that the equipment used is unimportant and that it is the photographer who "makes" the picture. Although in principle, I agree with this assertion, I would like to add an important caveat.There is no doubt in my mind, that the use of high quality, precision equipment engenders a degree of care in the user which inevitably leads to technically better photographs (advanced metering systems and quality lenses also help !).
Over the years, I have had the pleasure of using a number of quality cameras including Leicas (a IIIf and a Leicaflex SL), Contaxes (RTS II, 139 and T*VS) as well as my Rolleiflex 2.8f. Whether I am a good photographer or not, I leave others to judge but I can certainly say that I have enjoyed taking photographs over the last 25 or so years.
