The shop was called Bloomfield & Sons, watch makers, 69 Queen St, Ellen. It is still there, albeit derelict, between the flower shop, Pollination Flowers, and the Honey Pot night club. It was run by William Valentine Bloomfield and his wife Jemima, and then by his 3 children Alfred, Edmund and Jessie. Perhaps one of our in-house councillors can tell us what is planned for the site.

Maidenhead can also claim credit for much of the beautiful stained glass in Vancouver, Bob; this was crafted by Henry Bloomfield who left Maidenhead for Canada in the late 19th century; sadly, his son James was killed, as a young man, in a motor-cycle accident.

Bridget.
